Describe a normal curve, and explain the relationship of the standard deviation to this curve.

ANSWER: Answer will include that a normal curve is a bell-shaped distribution, with a large number of scores in the middle, tapering to a very few extremely high and low scores. The distribution of many chance events typically resembles a normal curve as do many psychological traits and events, such as memory span and intelligence, since these are determined by the action of a large number of factors. The standard deviation measures offset proportions of the curve above and below the mean.
