Describe the stages through which people who identify as LGBTQ move to clarify their sexual identity
What will be an ideal response?
The first step is a realization that they are sexually attracted to same-sex individuals, which is different than most of their peers. The next stage often includes exploration and experimentation as they determine whether they are LGBT, which could include testing relationships with persons of the opposite sex. Eventually they begin to identify themselves with a label or decide that the current labels do not describe them. When they feel comfortable with their sexual identity and are willing to face the possible discrimination and alienation that could accompany their disclosure as LGBT, they come out to others. The last stage of the process allows them to develop pride in their sexual identity
