Predict the effects of hyperaldosteronism (excess aldosterone production) on potassium ion balance
What will be an ideal response?
The production of excess aldosterone is known as hyperaldosteronism. Typically, aldosterone triggers secretion of potassium ions (and hydrogen ions) and reabsorption of sodium ions by the kidney. When excess aldosterone is present, too many potassium ions will be secreted, leading to insufficient potassium ions (hypokalemia).
