If two automobiles collide, they usually do not stick together. Does this mean the collision is elastic?
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: No. In most collisions, there is some loss of kinetic energy(meaning that collision is not elastic) but the objects fail to stick together as they would in a completely inelastic collision(a collision in which the maximum possible KE energy loss, consistent with the conservation of momentum, occurs).
