Which kinds of skills and knowledge are imparted to police trainees during their academy training, and what are the typical subjects that are taught in a police academy curriculum?

What will be an ideal response?

There is no standard academy curriculum, but some of the typical subjects taught at most police academies include report writing, patrol, investigations, basic first aid and CPR, emergency vehicle operations, computers and information systems, self-defense, firearms skills, the use of non-lethal weapons, criminal and constitutional law, the history of law enforcement, ethics and integrity, health and fitness, stress prevention and management, cultural diversity, basic community policing strategies, mediation and conflict management, and a number of special topics such as domestic violence, juveniles, domestic preparedness, and hate or bias crimes.

While attending the academy, recruits adopt a new identity and a system of discipline that involves taking orders and not questioning authority. This is the beginning of the officer’s working personality. The academy also teaches recruits to nurture a sixth sense, suspicion, and to regard their body as their most essential tool for performing their job.
