Dating and getting a driver's license are the most common rites of passage in the United States that ease adolescents into adulthood. Teenagers establish their own identity and become more independent as they mature and break away from parental supervision. During adolescence, the brain matures at different rates. Areas involved in basic functions such as processing information and controlling physical movement mature first.
