Discuss the first two steps of the active learning staircase. What makes them different?

What will be an ideal response?

The first step of the active learning staircase is just reading. This is where the reader reads from the beginning to the end without pre-viewing or using any other active reading strategies. The second step is reading actively. Reading actively means you are using pre-viewing, reading in key words or phrases, using a pacer, and adjusting your reading speed. This can result in 50% or more in comprehension and retention compared to just reading which is 10%.
