If the decedent owned real property in a jurisdiction other than her domicile, the personal representative would have to open an ancillary probate to have that real property distributed to heirs and/or beneficiaries. The instructor may want to use this time to discuss a very good use for trusts at this juncture as trusts would avoid the need for ancillary probate if the property from the other jurisdiction were placed in the trust.
