Briefly define the id according to Freud.

What will be an ideal response?

The id is the biological raw material of our temperament and personality; it represents our drives and instincts for acquiring life-sustaining necessities and life's pleasures. The id obeys what Freud called the pleasure principle, but because it lacks the ability to engage in the hedonistic calculus, it is often dangerous to itself as well as to others.
