How did the Great Depression affect the development of American art music repertoire?

What will be an ideal response?

Art music experimentation was on the verge of exploding when the Depression initiated a very conservative attitude across the country. Since the arts reflect culture at large, this impacted art music as well. Composers found that audiences were not very tolerant of bold works, and preferred instead a simpler, more accessible style.
