The three main checkpoints in cell cycle regulation are (1) the G1/S checkpoint where the cell either proceeds to the S phase or enters the inactive G0 state; (2) the G2/M checkpoint where the cell monitors completion of DNA synthesis and DNA damage; and (3) the M checkpoint is where the interval of cell growth when DNA replication is completed.
