Consider the advantages and disadvantages of asking a direct question as a method to get your audience’s attention in the introduction. Provide one potential advantage and one potential disadvantage.

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary. One advantage would be that a direct question gets the audience involved. Also, if the audience reaffirms your audience analysis and answers the way you expect, you can further establish credibility through the relevance of the topic. One disadvantage might arise if the audience did not answer the way you expected, putting you “on the spot” to adjust what you planned to say and potentially causing the audience to doubt the relevance of the topic. Direct questions are also a bit overused, which is a disadvantage.
