Explain the difference between a manipulation check, pre-test and pilot study, as defined by the textbook.
What will be an ideal response?
May vary. A manipulation check is intended to see if the stimuli manipulated the
independent variable as intended. This can be part of a pre-test but a pre-test isn’t a
manipulation check. A pilot study is a true “test run” of the entire experiment, not just a manipulation.
