Discuss practitioner attitudes toward research and provide support as to why these attitudes may exist.
What will be an ideal response?
One reason is the use of highly technical language typically presented in professional journals. This has been a problem in a lot of the counseling and educational literature. Researchers typically are academics and, therefore, write research articles for other academics and not for practitioners. However, in applied fields such as counseling and education, the purpose (for the most part) of research published in professional journals is the application of the knowledge gained, and application is most likely to be accomplished by practitioners. Thus those publishing professional journals will need to address this problem of making published research more readable (this does not mean less sophisticated or complex).
