The school principal was giving out Perfect Attendance Awards to the children in the second grade and called Jennifer to the front of the class saying
"Jennifer gets a Perfect Attendance Award too because she did not miss a single day of school except for the three days her parents held her out for religious reasons. And, after all, authentic perfect attendance means attending school each and every day that you should have attended." Explain what makes the school principal's message problematic to interpret.
What will be an ideal response
The school principal's message is problematic because the principal twisted the meaning of perfect attendance using the donkey cart word authentic. The term perfect attendance means attending school every day that school is in session. But using the donkey cart word the principal stipulated a different and quite problematic meaning. In addition to claiming that they are observing a religious holiday, what other days should count as days when a child should not have to attend school. Clearly if the child is contagious with the flu, the child should not attend. So does this now mean that a child who is kept out of school because of illness should still be eligible for the Perfect Attendance Award? Looks like the school principal has really messed up by what perfect attendance means.
