Mrs. Lee has been diagnosed with pleurisy affecting the membrane surrounding her lungs. Determine the type of membrane affected and describe its structure

What will be an ideal response?

The membrane surrounding the lungs is a type of serous membrane known as pleura. The pleura, like other serous membranes, consist of a layer of simple squamous epithelium (mesothelium), its basement membrane, and a layer of loose connective tissue. Serous membranes fold over on themselves forming an outer part known as the parietal layer and an inner part known as the visceral layer.
