Discuss whether or how TV channels compensate those who supply them with music videos for telecast.
What will be an ideal response?
In most instances, cable or broadcast TV channels presenting music videos do not pay labels for the
videos, whose telecast provides promotion value for record labels and artists. For a select few superstar
artists, TV channels like MTV do pay for limited-time exclusivity (after which the video plays free widely).
Over the years, record labels have tried to extract fees from TV channels televising their music videos,
with little success. Through all of this, composers and lyricists get standard performance royalties.
