In addition to glucose, can a cell use lipids or proteins for energy?

What will be an ideal response?

Oxidative energy system is based on cellular respiration and includes the Krebs cycle and the electron transport chain. As the Krebs cycle converts pyruvate many intermediate compounds are formed. Fatty acids and amino acids can be converted to one or more of these intermediates and are then "fed" into the Krebs cycle and are metabolized.
