Ans: Strong experimental research designs rely on random assignment to control for confounding extraneous variables and ensure internal validity. They allow the researcher to infer causation because these designs meet the three conditions needed to infer causality. Quasi-experimental designs do not use random assignment thus there is a possibility of confounding extraneous variables influencing results. As a result, when using quasi-experimental designs, data must be collected to rule out alternative explanations.
