Describe the psychological profile of a typical suicidal adolescent.

What will be an ideal response?

Suicidal adolescents often have depressive symptoms. In a recent study, the most significant factor in a first suicide attempt during adolescence was major depressive episode, while for children it was child maltreatment. Feelings of hopelessness, low self-esteem, and high self-blame are also associated with adolescent suicide. One study revealed that adolescent girls, but not boys, who perceived they were overweight were at risk for engaging in suicidal ideation.
