Harris Corp. has begun selling metal links to people who use the links to infringe the links on a patented watch band. Has Harris committed infringement? Fully discuss.

What will be an ideal response?

If the links have no purpose other than for use in the infringement, then Harris may be liable for contributory infringement. However, Harris cannot be liable for contributory infringement if the link is a "staple" item that has numerous uses other than in the invention. The item sold must be a material component or especially suited as a component of the patented invention for contributory infringement to exist. Some courts say that the item must be "good for nothing else" but infringement.
