The best answer to this question involves an “It all depends” type of response. The program, the larger community, and parental views will all play a role in making a decision. It should be noted that even young children are aware of this topic because of family members, neighbors, and news stories they may have heard. If there are no outright program prohibitions concerning the topic, it would be best to treat it as one would any other topic and share books for the overall story involved.
