Briefly define proxy server, screening host, and screening router.
What will be an ideal response?
Proxy server-This is a special set of software services that interposes itself between users and servers so that users connect with a proxy service that then connects to a target service rather than having users connect directly with services. This gives proxy software a chance to block unwanted types of access or connections and inspect user behavior for suspicious activities. Proxy server software often runs on firewalls because firewalls define the boundary between "inside" and "outside" on most networks.
Screening host-When users from outside the network attach to a service inside the network, they actually attach to the firewall, which establishes a proxy session into the private side of the network from there. Thus, the firewall appears to be the screening host upon which all externally accessible services reside, even though this is not usually the case.
Screening router-Also known as a border router; the term screening router refers to the ways in which such devices can be used to filter inbound and/or outbound traffic on the basis of IP and port addresses, domain names, and requested protocols or services.
