The Vocabulary Acquisition model should be applied when teaching the etymology and/or morphology of words, teaching academic vocabulary and language, and fostering a deep understanding of vocabulary. Teachers can use this model in helping students to understand a word's parts and meanings (e.g., prefixes, suffixes, and roots words) as a way to enhance their overall comprehension of the word. In addition, this model is helpful in students acquire the vocabulary and language to engage in clear and consistent communication in a specific content area or field. Finally, the Vocabulary Acquisition model supports students in attaining a deep understanding of vocabulary in general and certain words in particular, as students engage in higher-order cognitive-processing skills at advanced levels.
