Vitamin D deficiency causes rickets which is an alteration of calcium and phosphorus metabolism and consequent disturbance of ossification of the bone. A major symptom of rickets is softening of the bones which can produce deformity, including nodules on the ribs and flexibility and bending of the bones.Vitamin D deficiency also produces poorly developed teeth. Vitamin K deficiency results in prolonged blood clotting. Inadequate intake of vitamin C leads to scurvy, easy bruising, muscle cramps, and ulcerated gums.
