What contributions have behavioral science and dogs made to criminal investigation?
What will be an ideal response?
Behavioral science has contributed to criminal investigation through the development of criminal profiling. The focus of profiling is the behavior of the perpetrator at the crime scene. While criminal profiling of violent offenders is the main focus of profilers, other types of investigative profiles include profiles of drug-couriers and shoplifters, and threat assessments. Profiling can be useful to criminal investigation in several ways: focusing attention on more likely types of offenders, suggesting proactive strategies, suggesting trial strategies, and preventing violent crimes.
Police dogs are also used in investigative work, not only for tracking and catching criminals and controlling crowds, but also for finding drugs, explosives, and human remains. Police dogs are now being trained to work with cameras attached to their bodies, allowing them to enter dangerous places and send pictures back to officers.
