Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was a key individual within the civil rights movement of the 1960s. He was only 27 years old when he led a bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama, to protest against Rosa Parks's arrest and segregated public facilities. He went on to lead the national movement and advocated protest through civil disobedience and peaceful demonstrations. His "I Have a Dream" speech attracted hundreds of thousands of people to Washington, D.C. His strategy was effective, even after his assassination in Memphis in 1968.
