Explain how messages are both denotative and connotative, and offer an example of each.

What will be an ideal response?

The ideal answer should include:
- Messages are denotative (i.e., objective and generally easily agreed on, the meaning you would find in a dictionary) and connotative (i.e., subjective and generally highly individual in meaning).
- Take as an example the word migrants (often used to designate Mexicans coming into the United States to better their economic condition) with the word settlers (meaning Europeans who came to the United States for the same reason).
- Student examples will vary.
