If the "statins" (a family of very effective drugs to which Lipitor belongs) work so well, why do we not tell patients to eat what they want and take their medication?
The statins work well but they work best with a low-cholesterol diet and an exercise program. Like any drug, they are not equally effective with everyone. The benefits of a healthy diet and exercise program do more than help lower cholesterol and should be practiced by everyone, whether they have elevated cholesterol or not.
