You are a teacher in an elementary classroom. Your principal asks you to create a plan for teaching both formal and informal writing to your students. Describe the genres and justify your teaching of each

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: Depending upon the situation, students will need to use written language to convey their ideas. Students need to develop a command of both formal and informal writing. More formal writing conforms to Standard English. Types of formal writing elementary students might use include essays, simple reports, and formal letters. Informal writing, on the other hand, may be more appropriate for poetry, personal letters, stories, or plays. Informal writing does not adhere to Standard English as closely as does formal writing.
