Describe how to locate the vehicle paint code and how to convert it to a paint-maker’s paint code.

What will be an ideal response?

The vehicle manufacturers place the vehicle paint code in a variety of locations throughout the vehicle such as on the door jam, on the B pillar, in the trunk, on the fire wall to name just a few. Most paint manufacturers include the code locations in The Paint Manufacturer’s Paint Code Location Guide or can easily be located by contacting
the paint jobber.
Once the paint code has been retrieved, the paint color chip book must be used to convert the paint code to a mixing formula number which is then used to obtain the formula required to mix the paint. Some paint manufacturers are able to obtain/derive the mixing formula by inputting the VIN into the compute.
