Explain how tonicity affects water uptake at the roots.

Answer: Water is absorbed from soil to roots by a process called osmosis . Hypotonic soil (having more water concentration than solute concenteration ) causes the water to move from soil to roots whereas the reverse happens with hypertonic soil and with isotonic soil , no water moves at all.
