One difference between veterans courts and other problem-solving courts is that the typical veterans court assigns each participant a mentor who is also a veteran of the same service. Similar to participants in other problem-solving courts, veterans court participants are required to complete relevant treatment programs; their progress is monitored by a dedicated veterans court judge and by other criminal justice and social service professionals.
