Describe the assortative mating theory and hypothesize about how assortative mating occurs in online and speed dating
What will be an ideal response?
The assortative mating theory states that people find partners based on their similarity to each other. In both online and speed dating, physical attractiveness determines initial interest. The assortative mating theory would say that the two people who are initially interested in each other are similar in their physical traits or physical attractiveness. In speed dating, similar people select each other for dates and those people tend to be physically attractive, outgoing, self-assured, and self-focused. In online dating, first impressions are driven mainly by perceived attractiveness and later self-described attributes are influential.
