Explain the Proteus effect.

What will be an ideal response?

The Proteus effect refers to the idea that our roles of avatars in an online world can influence and shape our appearance and behaviors in our offline (real) worlds. That is, we may take our avatar’s identity (e.g., appearance, style of dress, ways of talking) and carry that over into our face-to-face interactions. An example of this could be when a female starts wearing nonprescription glasses because her avatar wears them.
