Compare the resistance to cultural blending within Rome to that within the Hellenistic world

What will be an ideal response?

There were varied levels of resistance, but overall Rome maintained a fairly flexible approach to creating a multicultural empire with Roman values at its core. There was significant toleration for different religions, for example, and Roman education began to reflect Greek philosophy, literature and languages. Enslavement within the Roman system allowed for a variety of classes, and did not necessarily mean menial labor; Greek schoolmasters were purchased (or hired) as teachers for wealthy Romans to teach their children - both boys and girls. Greek literature was emulated, as well as the first histories of Rome being written by Greeks like Polybius. Some conservative Romans, however, such as Cato the Elder, objected to the infiltration of Greek ideals that might overthrow valued conservative traditions not in line with paterfamilias or gravitas. Although both Alexandrian Greece and Rome built substantial multicultural empires, the ability of Rome to maintain a continuity through acceptance of diverse cultures aided its ability to manage their territories.
