Discuss the importance of timely permanency, include a discussion of demographic differences, as well as outcomes for those who stay in foster care longer

What will be an ideal response?

Timely permanence plans are very important in terms of positive outcomes for children in foster care. Children who linger in foster care have poorer behavioral outcomes, they are at risk for poorer developmental outcomes as well. Children who are older, have multiple siblings, a disability or mental issues are likely to remain in foster care longer. Additionally, African American children are less likely than their white counterparts to achieve permanency within the 12-month time frame. Establishing timely permanency can increase resiliency and undo negative effects that foster care can have on children.
