Describe the stages in the writing process. Should a teacher check spelling at each stage of the process?
What will be an ideal response?
Answers should include information about the rehearsing, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing stages. Answers should explain that proofreading and editing occur toward the end of the writing process because students need to be encouraged to take risks with the writing process; after students have edited their writing to the best of their ability, the teacher may then edit the remainder of the piece for spelling and other conventions.
