Of what advantage might it be for a plant to produce a seed rather than to be seedless?
What will be an ideal response?
A seed is a necessary adaptation to living on land because it protects the developing embryo when it is most vulnerable. Seeds can remain dormant over long periods, germinating when conditions are optimal for the plant's survival. The seed also provides nourishment to the growing embryo before and after its period of dormancy. Seeds also enhance the dispersal of the new plant when they are eaten or attached to hair or feathers and carried off away from the parent plant.
