Discuss how countercultures are created. Are they a negative or a positive of organizational culture? Please explain your answer
What will be an ideal response?
Countercultures may develop as a result of corporate mergers, disgruntled
employees, or highly differential group missions. Although countercultures certainly
have the potential to be destructive to organizational cohesiveness, they may also be
productive. Countercultures, by nature, oppose the values of the dominant culture. If
values and assumptions go unchecked in any organization for too long, they may become
so deeply entrenched that change, even change necessary to survival, becomes difficult if
not improbable.
