Intermediate sanctions provide today's judges with a wider variety of sentencing options. In recent years, the use of intermediate sanctions has become a more common court disposition. These sanctions might involve: intensive supervision probation, shock probation, boot camps, electronic monitoring, or home confinement. Undoubtedly, intermediate sanctions are tougher than probation, but less stringent than a prison sentence.
