Describe operant conditioning, reinforcers, and punishment

What will be an ideal response?

In operant conditioning, infants act, or operate, on the environment, and stimuli that follow their behavior change the probability that the behavior will occur again. A stimulus that increases the occurrence of a response is called a reinforcer. For example, sweet liquid reinforces the sucking response in newborns. Removing a desirable stimulus or presenting an unpleasant one to decrease the occurrence of a response is called punishment. A sour-tasting fluid punishes newborns' sucking response. It causes them to purse their lips and stop sucking entirely.
