Explain what the text's descriptions of reality and unreality have to do with stress. In other words, what happens in our mind that allows the stress response to activate?

When we focus our attention on what is happening (reality), when we keep our awareness on the here and now, what we get is an experience without stress. Stress occurs when we are associating a future pain or discomfort with some event (worrying) and the need to prepare for it with the fight-or-flight response. Future pain and discomfort are among the things that are not reality, the things we make up, our judgments, our opinions, and our ideas about our experience. When we think mindfully, we eliminate the possibility of stress turning on in the first place.
