What are the key differences between a rape-free culture and a rape-prone culture? Consider the community in which you live, and assess it with respect to these two concepts. Justify your assessment.

What will be an ideal response?

Varies. In comparing the two rape cultures, students should point out that in rape-free cultures,
women have a great deal of importance and respect. Their culture is characterized by a belief in
equality through complementarity. In contrast, a rape-prone culture is gender-divided; men and
women live separate lives. Men are more concerned with proving their manhood which results in high
rates of interpersonal violence, male dominance, and sexual separation. Rape myths create an
environment conducive to rape.
