Explain how essential oils can be used in simple inhalation and facial sauna treatments, hot and cold compresses, manual exfoliations using natural substances, and aromatic baths
What will be an ideal response?
Simple Inhalation and Facial Sauna Treatments: Simple inhalation treatments are excellent for relieving head congestion and sinus infections. Boil 1 quart of water and, while it is still boiling, pour it into a large bowl. Add 5 to 8 drops of the desired essential oil and stir. Cover the head with a towel and lean over the bowl of water. Keep the eyes closed and breathe deeply through the nose for 5 to 15 minutes, depending on one's level of comfort. Rinse the face with cool water and gently blot skin dry.
Hot and Cold Compresses: The warming and pain-relieving effects of hot compresses and analgesic effect of cold compresses can be enhanced by adding 4 to 5 drops of desired essential oil to the compress water.
Manual Exfoliations Using Natural Substances: The abrasive removal of dead skin cells via manual exfoliations using natural substances or salt glow can be enhanced by adding 2 to 3 drops of desired essential oil to the manual exfoliation mixture.
Aromatic Baths: Adding essential oils to a bath is another way to get the benefits of essential oils through absorption and inhalation. It is best to dilute 4 to 6 drops of essential oil in 1 teaspoon of carrier oil, and then add the mixture to the bath. (It is easier for the essential oil to disperse in the water if it is in a carrier oil.) If peppermint is being used, no more than 3 drops should be added; more than that may irritate sensitive skin.
