Discuss what a Relapse Prevention program consists of. What are the components of the program? Does it work?

What will be an ideal response?

Relapse Prevention was first developed as an application of behavioral strategies for the treatment and prevention of addiction and was modified for sexual offending based on the perceived commonalities for relapse in both populations. RP focuses on helping the offender analyze the chain of events preceding prior offenses in order to identify what led to the offending. It also incorporates coping skills for high-risk situations. Even though it is popular, it has been criticized for lacking evidence of efficacy, and being a negative approach to treating people.
