Dawn images of Vesta show that it is much wider than it is tall. What might be the reason for its irregular shape?
What will be an ideal response?
It is probably the result of an impact. There is a huge impact crater site at Vesta's south pole, with a central peak that is one of the largest mountains in the solar system. Had it not been for this giant impact, Vesta would have much more mass, and would have enough gravity to be spherical in shape.
