Imagine you are teaching a new class, and you suddenly realize that almost none of your students come from families who share your values. Explain what you should do.
What will be an ideal response?
A sample response follows. In a case where my values are different from the parents of my students, I would first remind myself that since we see things differently, I may be biased against them. Therefore, before I passed any judgment, I would carefully choose my words and make sure I am being open and avoiding letting my biases affect my interactions. I would also try to avoid stereotyping and emotionally judging their actions. I would make an attempt to learn as much as I could about them and teach them as much as I could about myself, so that we would have better understanding. I would make sure our communication was ongoing, rather than a one-time event.
