It occurs when a child, preteen, or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed, or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen, or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies, or smartphones. Cyberbullying has become more prevalent as teens’ use of texting, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter on their smartphones has skyrocketed in the last five years.
