Debate the double-edged sword experienced by women who suffer from IPV at the hands of their military spouses
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: Many military spouses are solely dependent on their batterers. Military service frequently requires moving every three years to remote or unfamiliar locations. Support systems of family and friends can be interrupted or nonexistent. Many military spouses can only obtain low-level jobs due to their constant relocation. This makes it increasingly difficult to be financially secure on their own salary or be financially independent. If a military spouse reports intimate partner violence it can go to the perpetrator's boss. This could cause further rage of the batter because it may have negative consequences on their career. Thus, many military spouses are extremely reluctant to report their abuse.
